Bridges and Crowns
Bridges:
Dental bridges are fixed and cannot be removed. They are false teeth anchored on neighbouring teeth in order to replace one or more missing teeth. The false tooth is fused in between two crowns that serve as anchors by attaching to the teeth on each side of the false tooth and thereby bridging them together.
Crowns:
A crown is placed over a tooth that is badly damaged or decayed. A crown is made to look like your tooth. Many people call it a cap.
Crowns may be placed for several reasons. Usually the tooth has been broken or damaged a great deal. As a result, a filling can't replace enough of the tooth or make the tooth strong enough. Crowns can be used to improve appearance as well. They may be placed to cover misshapen or badly discoloured teeth.
Crowns and Bridges are usually completed within two appointments. On the first appointment, we prepare the tooth and take impressions, which are then sent to our ceramist and place a temporary crown/ bridge. These take time to make, as they are handmade. You will come back for a further appointment and then we will remove the temporary crown that was placed on the first appointment and place the final crown/ bridge into place.
